The Plateau State Police Command has announced a temporary ban on the operation of tricycles, popularly known as Keke-NAPEP, across the Jos-Bukuru metropolis and other major towns in the state.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Plateau State Command, SP Alfred Alabo, the Command said the restriction takes effect on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, as part of security measures for the Eid Maulud celebration.

According to the Command, the ban is aimed at preventing the use of tricycles for criminal activities, reckless driving and other offences that could threaten public safety during the celebration.

The Commissioner of Police, Ayodeji Faniyan, urged tricycle operators and members of the public to comply with the directive, assuring residents that security personnel would be deployed to major roads, prayer grounds and other public places before, during and after the celebration.

The CP also warned police personnel against extortion, directing that any officer found exploiting the restriction for personal gain would face disciplinary action.

The Command advised tricycle operators not to give money to any officer demanding payment and urged members of the public to report cases of extortion or police misconduct.

Parents and guardians were equally advised to caution their wards against activities capable of disrupting public peace during the Eid Maulud period.

Meanwhile, the existing ban on motorcycles, popularly known as Okada, remains in force across Jos and Bukuru metropolis and all areas covered by the Jos Masterplan
