The Police in Ebonyi State, South East Nigeria have confirmed a deadly ambush attack on its personnel by a local armed militia, leaving at least one policeman dead.
Two other operatives are said to be missing while another three were injured by the suspected armed group simply identified as Ezza Warriors.

Sources told AIT that the attacks occurred on Sunday night, at Effium, a war torn community in Ohaukwu Council Area of Ebonyi State.
The State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Loveth Odah, explained that the Police Operatives were returning from investigative activities in connection with the five missing Abakiliki Ring Road project engineers who were abducted in the same area on the 3rd of November, 2021.
Odah said the operatives were in the company of Chinedu Awo, the lawmaker representing Ohaukwu North Constituency in the State House of Assembly who accompanied the operatives to enable him dialogue with the alleged militia group.
The Police press statement noted that the operatives were ambushed by the gunmen numbering over sixty (60) who attacked them from all flanks, claiming that the operatives gallantry fought back, resulting in heavy casualties on the side of the attackers.
