The Kaduna State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of the daughter of former Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, ABU Zaria Professor Abdullahi Mustapha.

Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Yakubu Sabo in a statement says the Command received a distress from the Samaru Division Zaria at about 11:40pm on Friday that, some unknown armed men entered the residence of the former VC, shot and injured the security man and took away Maryam Mustapha, the 35-year old daughter of the Professor.

The statement says on receipt of the information, teams of policemen were mobilised to the scene, engaged the hoodlums in a serious gun duel and successfully neutralised one of the kidnappers who died on the spot and several of the attackers escaped with gun injuries.

Exhibits recovered on the body of the neutralised kisnapper include an AK47 Magazine loaded with 24 live ammunition and a Techno handset while 7 empty shells of AK47 ammunition were recovered at the scene of the incident.

However, the kidnappers succeeded in running away with the victim in the heat of the gun battle.

The injured security man is currently receiving treatment at the ABU Teaching Hospital Zaria.

The police say it is doing everything possible to rescue the victim and apprehend the perpetrators with a view to bringing them to book.

They are therefore appealing to the general public to support the Command with useful information that could help overcome the present security challenges.
