The police have confirmed Saturday’s early morning shooting at New Market area of Enugu State capital, South-East Nigeria where hoodlums were reported to have shot sporadically in the neighbourhood.
Although there was no report of any casualty, eyewitness told AIT.live that traders were seen scampering for safety in the area during the gun attack.
An unverified online video claimed that the gunmen numbering over 10, stormed the area as early as 6am and started shooting, scaring the residents away.
A police van was also set ablaze in front of the Colliery Hospital at New Market.

It is believed that the attack was a deliberate attempt by some armed hoodlums to scare the people and force them to obey the five days of sit-at-home declared by a faction of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB led by Simon Ekpa.
The sit-at-home order which was supposed to have commenced on Friday was earlier asked to be ignored by the IPOB spokesperson Emmanuel Powerful, urging people of the South-East to go about their businesses.
