Police have confirmed that terrorists operating in the forest areas of Borgu have abducted unspecified numbers of Friday Mosque worshippers from Gidan Zana, Masaka, Sabon Gida and other neighbouring villages in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, North-Central Nigeria.

The Village Head of Ka’ada, who was recently released from captivity, is also said to be among those abducted, as well as the 90-year-old father of the District Head of Dekara.

Confirming the development in a statement, Police spokesperson of the Niger State Command, Superintendent Wasi’u Abiodun, disclosed that on August 21, suspected terrorists invaded Gidan-Zana, Kpenya village via Dekara District Borgu, and Kpenya mosque and abducted an unspecified number of persons during prayers while others escaped into the nearby forest.

However, the developing report indicated that no lives were lost, while a joint security detachment has been deployed to the area for assessment and rescue operations.

According to the witness account, the mass abduction occurred immediately after the conclusion of the weekly Friday Prayers at the Central Mosque in the Dekara community.
