The Kwara State Police Command, through its Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) unit, has intensified its preventive policing campaign against cultism, drug abuse, cybercrime, and other social vices across schools in the state.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, disclosed this during a one-day stakeholders’ sensitization programme in Ilorin, the state capital, aimed at promoting awareness, preventing crime, and fostering safer schools and communities.
The event brought together representatives of security agencies, parents, students, youths, and community leaders to discuss the dangers of cultism and other social vices.
Addressing participants, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, said the Nigeria Police Force is increasingly embracing preventive policing through education, strategic partnerships, and community engagement as a more effective and sustainable approach to crime reduction.
Earlier, the State Coordinator of POCACOV, ASP Ibrahim Alanamu, said the unit would intensify sensitization campaigns across tertiary institutions, secondary schools, and primary schools to discourage cultism, drug abuse, and other criminal activities among young people.
Stakeholders unanimously described cultism and other social vices as serious threats to the future of young people and national development, stressing that sustained collaboration among parents, schools, government, security agencies, and students remains key to tackling the menace.
