Police in Katsina State has debunked claims that bandits have struck again, abducting 20 women and five others in two villages of Dandume Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The claims were said to have been published in some online media.

The spokesman of the command, Gambo Isah, said that he spoke with the Divisional Police Officer of Dandume who said that there were no incidents of such recorded in his area of responsibility.

According to Isah, social media reports sometimes negate the norms and ethics of the journalism profession.

He urged the public to disregard the untrue publication.

An online publication had claimed that twenty women were abducted Friday night while attending a naming ceremony at Gidan Bido village, in the Jiruwa Ward of Dandume Local Government Area of Katsina State.

Similarly, the report added that suspected bandits also in the early hours of Saturday, attacked the home village of the member of the House of Assembly representing Dandume Local Government Area.

The police image maker further urged social media influencers, to either go to the scene of a crime and do real-time investigative reporting or seek confirmation from the appropriate authorities.

He also stressed that the command is going to investigate the source of the malicious publication and ensure appropriate measures are taken against the reporters of the misinformation, capable of causing discord and apprehension, among the people of the state.
