The Delta State Police Command has denied shooting at women protesters at Oteri community in Ughelli North Local Government Area contrary to some online media reports.
State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, while reacting to the recent protest embarked upon by some women at Ughelli community, who alleged that they were shot at by the police, explained that tear gas was only used to disperse them when they lynched a policeman at the Area Command.

According to him, no protester was injured, thereby refuting claims that five women sustained gun shot injuries.
It would be recalled that on Monday, May 6, 2024, some women protesters from Oteri community, stormed the Ughelli Area Command demanding an end to incessant police extortions and harassments at check points along Ughelli Road.
Dissatisfied with the response of the Police Area Command, the women attacked a policeman and they were subsequently dispersed with tear gas.
