The Zamfara State Police Command says its personnel have foiled a bandit attack in Zurmi Local Government Area after responding to a security threat.
It also said it cleared a suspected landmine, Improvised Explosive Device, IED, along the Gusau–Gwashi Road in Bukuyum Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement issued on August 12 by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, the Command said the incident occurred at about 7:00 a.m., following a report of a security threat in the area.
The statement said the Divisional Police Officer in Zurmi promptly deployed police personnel to provide security for members of the community who were engaged in tree-planting activities.

The personnel were reportedly attacked by armed bandits who opened sporadic gunfire.
The security operatives took cover and responded decisively, engaging the attackers in a gun battle and forcing them to retreat into a nearby forest.
The Police said no casualty was recorded in the attack.
In a separate incident at about 9:30 a.m. the same day, a suspected landmine IED exploded along the Gusau–Gwashi Road in Bukuyum Local Government Area.
The device was suspected to have been planted by armed bandits along the route. However, no casualty was recorded.
Following the report, the Police said its Explosive Ordnance Disposal, EOD, team, in collaboration with the Command’s Crime Response Unit was immediately deployed to the scene.
A thorough sweep of the area was subsequently conducted, with the scene declared safe for commuters and other road users.
The Police Command has urged residents and motorists to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or objects to security agencies.
