The Nasarawa State Police Command has foiled a kidnapping attempt and rescued four victims unhurt along the Akwanga-Jos Road in Akwanga Local Government Area of the state.
Police spokesperson in Nasarawa state, Ramhan Nansel said the operation followed a distress call received on Tuesday night about armed hoodlums operating near Megona Filling Station in Andaha.
The Divisional Police Officer led a team of operatives to the scene where the suspects opened fire, resulting in a gun duel.
According to Nansel, the police overpowered the kidnappers with superior firepower, forcing them to flee into the surrounding bush with suspected gunshot injuries while abandoning their victims.
Items believed to have been stolen from a nearby provision store were also recovered.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed commended the officers for their swift response and directed an intensive manhunt for the fleeing suspects.
He said the operation is being carried out with support from the military, local vigilantes and hunters, while urging residents to continue providing credible information to security agencies.
