Police in Plateau State have rescued six abducted persons from their kidnappers in Bassa Local Government area of the state in the early hours of Thursday with the support of local hunters.
The six persons, named Rashida Hamisu, Mummi Usman, Ibrahim Isa, Ya’u Yahaya, Bala Aminu and Ishaku Usman, were all forcefully taken away when their abductors invaded their Gwalfada Village in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Confirming the development to ait.live, Plateau State Police Command Spokesperson Alfred Alabo said the Police, acting on credible intelligence, deployed its men led by the Divisional Police Officer of Jengere police station and trailed the kidnapping gang to their den in-between Tumu, Tsaya and Rumfar Gomna in Bassa Local Government area of Plateau State.
The police engaged the kidnappers in a gun battle to release the hostages.
One of the kidnappers and a local hunter who aided the police in the rescue died in the shootout.
Police say a manhunt is on to rescue the remaining abducted persons and capture other members of the kidnapping gang.
