For nearly three thousand families of police officers who died in service, the loss of a loved one also meant losing someone they depended on.
The Nigeria Police Force has now paid more than two-point-three billion naira in insurance and welfare benefits to 2,971 beneficiaries and next-of-kin.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has also directed that officers and their families be better informed about their insurance entitlements and how to access them.
