The federal government has been asked to come up with flexible ways that will enable citizens obtain their national identification numbers NIN.
Speaking to AIT in Port Harcourt, south south Nigeria, some enrollees alleged that officials of the commission are selling forms which are meant to be free.
Like other offices of the National Identity Management Commission, NIMC across the country, the Port Harcourt center has witnessed a large crowd of citizens who want to enroll for their national identification numbers following the federal government announcement that citizens without National identification numbers stand the risk of their mobile lines being blocked.
Unfortunately, the process has been hectic and even baby janiel who accompanied his mother was not spared from the long waiting ordeal under the scorching sun.
The citizens who lamented the loss of productive hours while waiting to be enrolled are therefore asking government to decentralise the process.
At a time when the country is making efforts to stem the spread of covid 19, allowing such large crowd to many will further worsen the pandemic.
Efforts to speak to the Rivers State coordinator of the National Identity Management Commission proved abortive as at the time of this report.
