The Rivers State Government has commissioned a new runway and apron at the Nigerian Air Force Base in Port Harcourt, describing the project as a strategic intervention to strengthen military operations and enhance security in the state and the Niger Delta.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara says the facility will improve the efficiency and safety of aerial operations, while supporting the fight against crude oil theft, illegal refining and pipeline vandalism.

The newly constructed runway now provides the Nigerian Air Force Base in Port Harcourt with a modern and improved facility for aircraft operations.

The project, undertaken by the Rivers State Government, underscores the administration’s commitment to supporting institutions that contribute to national security and the development of critical infrastructure.

For the Nigerian Air Force, the improved runway is expected to facilitate safer and more efficient take-off and landing operations, while strengthening the Base’s capacity to respond to security and operational demands.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara says the new runway is a demonstration of the State’s commitment to supporting the Nigerian Air Force and strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture.

The Governor says the project reflects the administration’s belief that effective security requires collaboration between the Federal Government and the states.

He also acknowledges President Bola Tunubu for providing leadership that continues to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture.

Commissioning the facility, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, applauds the Rivers State Government for the massive investment, saying that it demonstrates Governor Fubara’s dept in strategic knowledge.

Air Marshal Aneke adds that the new runway will significantly enhance the operations of the Nigerian Air force particularly in protecting critical national assets in Rivers State.

The commissioning of the rehabilitated runway therefore marks another phase in the partnership between the Rivers State Government and the Nigerian Air Force, with both institutions expected to continue working together to strengthen security and protect critical national assets.
