Troops of the Joint Task Force (North-West), Operation Fansan Yamma, have reportedly killed several terrorists during a major operation in Zamfara State.
The operation, carried out on Sunday, followed a direct response to credible intelligence indicating a high-level gathering of notorious terrorist leaders and commanders from across the West African sub-region.
In a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of Operation Fansan Yamma, Lieutenant-Colonel Aliyu Danja, intelligence reports confirmed that the terrorists had converged at a concealed location in Tumfa Village, Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
According to the statement, the meeting point was structured and situated on the northern outskirts of the village, hidden within a densely vegetated area shielded by thick mango trees along a stream channel.
The statement added that the purpose of the gathering was to coordinate attacks against innocent communities across the North-West region.
Danja said troops of Sector 2 of Operation Fansan Yamma, in close collaboration with the Air Component, swiftly launched a precision airstrike on the identified terrorist hideout.
The airstrike successfully destroyed the structure serving as the terrorists’ meeting point.
A battle damage assessment conducted after the operation confirmed that several terrorists were killed, while surviving members fled the area in disarray.
Further aerial surveillance and intelligence also revealed movements of suspected terrorist associates attempting to evacuate casualties from the location.
The Army said ground troops are continuing exploitation and clearance operations in the area to eliminate fleeing terrorists and consolidate operational gains.
According to the statement, further details of the operation will be communicated later.
