President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the President-elect of the Republic of Benin, Romuald Wadagni, following his victory in the country’s April 12 presidential election.
Wadagni, who currently serves as Benin’ Republic’s Minister of Finance, secured an overwhelming majority of votes in the poll.
In a congratulatory letter personally signed by President Tinubu, the Nigerian leader described the victory as a reflection of the confidence the Beninese people have in Wadagni’s leadership and track record in public service.
According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Nigerian leader also commended the people of Benin Republic for their commitment to democratic values, noting that the peaceful conduct of the election underscores the country’s resilience and dedication to the democratic process.
“Your victory reflects the trust the Beninese people have placed in your vision and your distinguished record of service as Minister of Finance,” the President stated.
Highlighting the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and Benin Republic, Tinubu emphasised the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation between both nations.
“Our two nations share a long history of friendship, cultural ties, and mutual cooperation,” he said, adding that he looks forward to working closely with Wadagni’s administration to deepen relations, enhance regional security, and promote economic prosperity within the ECOWAS sub-region and the African Union.
President Tinubu further assured the President-elect of Nigeria’s support as he prepares to assume office, wishing him wisdom, strength, and success in the task ahead.
