Former Abia State Governor and Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has declared that the opposition cannot defeat President Bola Tinubu in a free and fair election, describing the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC as “a moving train.”
Speaking with journalists at the National Assembly in Abuja at the resumption of plenary, Kalu dismissed claims that the APC is working to undermine opposition parties through the electoral system.
He maintained that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC operates independently and deserves respect as an autonomous institution.
Kalu said the APC-led government has performed fairly well, noting that there is currently no strong opposition to President Tinubu.
According to him, the opposition remains weak and has yet to present viable alternatives to Nigerians.
He stated that when President Tinubu assumed office in 2023, the economy was in a difficult state, but efforts are ongoing to stabilise it and recover lost ground.
He expressed confidence that the President would secure victory in any credible election, citing the APC’s growing membership base of over 15 million.
On the economy, Kalu attributed ongoing challenges to insecurity and acts of sabotage, despite progress recorded through government reforms.
He noted that while macroeconomic indicators show improvement, the impact has yet to fully reach ordinary Nigerians due to persistent security concerns.
The lawmaker warned that deliberate actions by some political actors are undermining government efforts, stressing the need to address insecurity to ensure the full benefits of economic reforms are felt nationwide.
