Leader of the New Mandate For Change, Jonah Ubanmhen, has given 100-day deadline to the Head of Nigeria Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to come-up with a roadmap and “measurable target” for implementing the Regulatory Zonal Directors Vision across the Six (6) Geo-political zones of the Country. The move is seen as one that will fast track the establishment of the Nigerian Broadcast Institute as part of effort to build a New Nigeria in 2023.
Addressing the NBC Head and Staff, Jonah said it is not enough to rest on past laurels, but it is important to adapt to the emerging challenges in the mobilisation and enlightenment of Nigerians.
“We have to ask ourselves how the Nigerian Broadcast Institute will achieve global greatness in the next five to ten years. What innovative ideas is needed, what improvement should be made in the processes that will guide the path of Nigeria and steer the economy in the direction of sustainable growth”.
Jonah exhorted NBC to help in making the new Nigeria, through changes in technology and processes and enunciated a 5-P formula – Performance, Process, Persona, Procurement and Prepare.
“Education and Innovation should be the guiding principles in the 21st century. He said incentives, imagination and institution building would be the three keys to success.”

He stressed that improving operational and financial performance, transparency and accountability in the sector were non negotiable. He also called for preparation for technological disruptions such as Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Computing and Robotics in Broadcasting.
Identifying key challenges for NBC, Jonah said they should focus on integrating innovation and research. He suggested that the Broadcast Institute can link-up with other developed countries and to build a comprehensive strategy for international partnership
Referring to the move as foundation of “new Nigeria,” the reformer tasked all stakeholders to focus on implementation of the Nationwide Broadcast Institute. “NBI has given rise to a healthy debate and the more we discuss and debate the more it will benefit the society. It is normal that question will arise on how this huge plan will be implemented.
However, “Scales are already there for the regulatory zonal directors nationwide,” Jonah said. The “ NBC program is already independent and the Nigerian Broadcast Institute is growing strong on the education of the society. The vision of the New Mandate For Change is to direct the country on a road map towards an all-round sustainable development and demonstrating a new Nigeria by globally showcasing Nigeria’s prowess of innovation infrastructure,” Jonah said.
