President Bola Tinubu has declared a three-day period of national mourning for Nigerian Air Force personnel who died in the crash of an ATR-42 military aircraft in Ondo State, South-West Nigeria.
The President also directed that national flags be flown at half-staff across the country as a mark of respect for the deceased officers.
The aircraft, carrying 25 passengers and seven crew members, crashed near a naval base in the Igbokoda area of Ondo State while on a routine mission from Benin to Lagos.

According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President has directed the Nigerian Air Force to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the crash.
The Air Force is expected to release the names of the deceased personnel after their families have been contacted.
