President Bola Tinubu has received the founder of Zenith Bank and Chairman of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND, Jim Ovia, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The President also received the Director-General of the Budget Office of the Federation, Tanimu Kurfi, in separate meetings at the State House.
Details of the discussions between the President and the two visitors were not immediately available as of the time of filing this report.
Jim Ovia, a prominent figure in Nigeria’s banking sector, has chaired the board of NELFUND since his appointment by President Tinubu on April 26, 2024.
The fund was established to administer the Federal Government’s interest-free student loan scheme, which is designed to expand access to higher education by providing financial support to eligible Nigerian students.
The scheme is part of the Federal Government’s efforts to address financial barriers to tertiary education and ensure that qualified students can pursue their academic ambitions.
Meanwhile, the Budget Office of the Federation plays a central role in preparing and coordinating the Federal Government’s annual budget, as well as monitoring budget implementation in line with the government’s fiscal priorities.
The meeting with Kurfi comes within the broader context of the administration’s budgetary and economic management responsibilities.
