Quarantine agency to ensure EU nations accept Nigeria food exports

Efforts are ongoing to ensure adherence to the European Union, EU requirements for exportation of food products, to avert imminent rejection of Nigerian food and food products in European countries.

Acting Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service, NAQS, Godwin Audu made this known in a statement released after his maiden meeting with Station and Zonal Coordinators across the country in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

Audu also pledged his administration’s dedication to promoting Ease of Doing Business and facilitating trade in line with the current government’s “Renewed Hope” Agenda for the country’s economic growth. To achieve this purpose, the Acting Comptroller-General, is making Human Capital Development a key priority in his administration and called on the staff to rededicate themselves to the task of repositioning the agency to better serve to the diverse stakeholders.

He announced the establishment of the Operations and Enforcement Department within the agency, which will oversee seamless operations, minimise unnecessary seizures, and enforce seizures judiciously.

The NAQS Boss promised to look into the challenges of the different Zones, their state of infrastructure and operational tools in order to boost their working conditions, stressing the importance of fostering stronger relationships with sister bodies and stakeholders, and urged Zonal and Station Coordinators to follow suit.

He emphasised his belief in teamwork, this is even as he has done placement for over 100 officers to Assistant Superintendent of Quarantine I, ASQ I realising that it was long overdue having been confirmed, as part of efforts to boost the workers morale.

He said his administration’s open door policy will give room for innovative ideas stressing that the development will contribute in growing the agency.
