Rice farmers in Arugung have decried the invasion of their farms by the dangerous quela birds that have destroyed no fewer than 75,000 hectares of farm crops.
One of the farmers who spoke with the journalists, Mama Garba Rabe lamented that they are in serious problem, apart from high cost of fuel and fertilizer also the quela birds are here, one cannot eat his breakfast at home if not bird will eat all his rice field.

He said he spent over 20 years cultivating rice here, but I’ve never seen a bird’s Disaster like this, no matter how you push them away, they keep coming back, as you can see we have to harvest before time, to minimize the loss.
“The birds are too many, just too many, they are flying in thousands, and by the time they land on a rice field within few seconds they will finish it all.” He lamented.
The Argungu local government council chairman, Alhaji Salihu Argungu also told newsmen that, they are making efforts to wipe out the dangerous birds by identifying resting areas
He said, once they are identified, they would go on massive spray to wipe them out.
