No fewer than three persons have been killed with several others injured and many houses destroyed by rainstorm in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State, North-West Nigeria.
Public Relations Officer of Katsina State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, Umar Mohammed, confirmed the incident to ait.live via a telephone conversation
According to Mohammed, the agency will visit the area on a fact finding mission to ascertain the exact number of people and houses affected by the deadly incident.
Similarly, the Information Officer of Kankara Local Government Area, Abdulkarim Sani, who confirmed the incident said the rain started on Saturday night, June 11 and lasted until Sunday morning, June 12.
According to him, during the downpour, several houses collapsed and the roofs of others were blown away by the strong wind.
He said that the disaster which cuts across Kankara town, Nasarawa and Matsiga communities claimed one life in Nasarawa community and two in Matsiga community.
According to him, one of the victims, a woman died when the wall of her room, which was made of mud blocks, collapsed on her.
Sani added that, the victims were buried Sunday morning according to Islamic rites including a wife to a staff member of the information unit of the council, Surajo Zabo.
