The National and State Houses of Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal has opened for business in Kano State, North-West Nigeria after Saturday’s re-run election in 3 federal and 4 state constituencies.
President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa constituted the Tribunal pursuant to Section 133 of the Electoral Act and Section 238 of the 1999 Constitution (As Amended).
A statement signed by the Secretary of the Tribunal, Ishaq Abubakar says the Chief Judge of Kano State, Justice Nura Sagir has approved the use of the State High Court Complex located on Miller Road Bompai as trial court and registry.
Section 134 of the Electoral Act provides for 21 days for a petition to be filed from the date results of elections were declared.

It also provides for 180 days within which the Tribunal shall deliver judgment in writing from the day the petition was filed.
While the All Progressives Congress, APC won 2 federal and 4 state constituencies in the re-run election, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP won 1 Federal Constituency seat.
