Nigeria’s House of Representatives has joined forces with the Senate to urge President Muhammadu Buhari to declare bandits as terrorists.
At Thursday’s plenary, the Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, Babajimi Benson, through a Motion If Urgent Public Importance, told his colleagues that the rising insecurity in Nigeria requires an all-of-government approach, saying that “a proscription order will officially bring the activities of bandits and their sponsors within the purview of the Terrorism Prevention Act, and any persons associated with such groups can then be legally prosecuted and sentenced to penalties specified in the act”.
