Nigeria’s House of Representatives is seeking to repeal the enabling laws of six agencies under the ministry of aviation, to ensure that new laws are enacted to meet the demands and general development of the aviation sector.
The House committee on aviation is conducting a three-day public hearing on the Civil Aviation Bills, including the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, to contribute to the revenue generation of the country.
The uncertainty regarding climate change necessitated the amendment of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, to provide weather and climate information services to various sectors of the economy and contribute to the regional and global observation system, for the benefit of all.
The committee highlighted the importance of the aviation industry to the growth of the economy and the need to constantly review the statutes, to keep pace with its obtainable standards.

The bill gives the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, the sole authority to regulate, license, approve and authorize the standard of meteorological activities and operation in Nigeria.
The committee is also deliberating on the amendment of the Nigeria College of Aviation Technology, to bring the operational requirements of the college up to date and dictates of the aviation industry.
