Nigeria’s House of Representatives on Thursday resolved to investigate private internet service providers in the country for inefficiency and poor services.
The lawmakers during plenary raised concerns about the exploitative practices of these service providers which they say have hindered progress and negatively impacted business and economic activities in the country.
The decision of the lawmakers to probe the firms followed a matter of urgent importance on the need for the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to initiate a policy of “Pay-As-You-Go” to all ISPs in order to stop expioitations for services not rendered.
The lawmakers are worried that regulatory agencies have continually condoned the activities of inefficient service providers to the detriment of consumers.
The House asked the NCC and other relevant agencies to develop a consumer protection framework that will allow for automatic compensation or refunds for prolonged service outages or significant deviations from advertised service levels.
