A Retiring Supreme Court Justice, Uwani Abba-Aji, has recounted a challenging period in her career when corruption allegations led to an EFCC investigation, as well as a United States travel ban she says resulted from the misinterpretation of a judgment delivered by Justices of the Supreme Court.
Speaking at a valedictory session in her honour, Justice Abba-Aji urged serving judges to uphold integrity, courage and humility, as the Chief Justice of Nigeria and other senior legal figures paid tribute to her decades of service.
Justice Uwani Abba-Aji takes her final bow from the Supreme Court upon attaining the mandatory retirement age of 70.
From her beginnings as a court clerk in 1973 to her elevation to the apex court, the retiring Justice says her career was marked by challenges that tested her commitment to justice.
Recalling a judgment that attracted a United States travel ban on seven Supreme Court Justices, she said the decision was misinterpreted, adding that the restriction remains in force.
