Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara has again assured the people of the State that Saturday’s Local Government Council elections will go ahead despite the antics of a few persons hell-bent on stopping the exercise from going as scheduled.
Governor Fubara, who explained that the election complies with a recent judgment of the Supreme Court, also stated that he is the biggest loser, given the fact that his party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has chosen not to take part in the exercise.
Addressing stakeholders drawn from all 23 Local Government Areas of the State, Governor Fubara said the election is entirely about the State, and everything has been done to ensure that it is free, peaceful and credible.

Thursday is the last day of campaigns before Saturday’s Local Government Council election in Rivers State, and as part of measures of ensuring a hitch-free exercise, Governor Siminalayi Fubara convened a meeting with stakeholders drawn from all 23 local government areas of the State.
For the umpteenth time, the Governor told the people that the election will go ahead as scheduled, insisting that it follows from the recent judgment of the Supreme Court, which has dire consequences for States that fail to put in place elected executives at the Third tier of government.

As it turned out, the Governor noted that he is the biggest loser of the forthcoming Council polls exercise, given the fact that his political Party, the PDP, has chosen not to partake in the election.
He also wonders why members of the PDP are protesting against the conduct of the election even after the Party withdrew from the process.
Nevertheless, the Rivers State Governor is calling on voters across the 319 Wards of the State to go out and peacefully vote for the candidates of their choice.
He also thanks the people of Rivers State for what he described as their love, sacrifice, and support for democracy and the rule of law.
