Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara … arrive at the headquarters of the state Independent Electoral Commission, otherwise known as RSIEC.
Received by the chairman, retired Justice Adolphus Enebeli, the governor came to ascertain the electoral body’s level of preparedness ahead of the October 5 local government election.
A federal High Court in Abuja stopped the Independent National Electoral Commission from releasing voter registers to RSIEC to conduct the October 5 local government election.
The court held that RSIEC was wrong in fixing the October 5 date when all relevant laws guiding the election had not been met
While assuring RSIEC of all the support it needs, Governor Fubara wants the electoral body to, on its part, conduct a free and credible election.
The Rivers State Governor is also calling on the people of the state to come out and vote for candidates of their choice during the local government election, saying that the process will mark a new beginning in the state.
