Rivers State Government has sealed 21 health facilities and arrested three persons over alleged quackery and operations of illegal medical facility across four local government areas of the state
Permanent Secretary of the Rivers state Ministry of Health, Dr. Wachukwu Vincent during a media briefing in Port Harcourt said the arrest and closure of facilities followed an enforcement operation by the ministry in the third quarter of 2026 to check quackery, unregistered health facilities and other violations of health regulations
Dr. Wachukwu said the enforcement followed surveillance reports indicating that over 150 health facilities were operating without required professional registration
He also disclosed that the operations at Manda Clinics and Maternity in Elelewon were carried out jointly with the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP following allegation of child trafficking.
The Rivers State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating quackery and warned operators of unregistered facilities to regularise or face prosecution.
The facilities shutdown include eight hospitals, five maternities and eight diagnostic centres across Port Harcourt, Obio Akpor, Ikwerre, and Eche.
