The Nigerian Government has dismissed media reports claiming that Ukraine is recruiting Nigerian volunteers into its troops in the wake of Russian invasion of the country.
Reports making the rounds have it that a registration desk has been set up at the Ukrainian Embassy in Abuja, where Nigerians are being enlisted to support Ukraine in defending its territory against Russian forces.
A statement issued by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign, Francisca Omayuli says the ministry had contacted the Ukrainian Embassy to verify the report, which was outrightly refuted.
But the embassy of Ukraine, however, confirmed that a number of Nigerians had approached it, indicating their willingness to fight on the side of Ukraine in its ongoing war against Russia.

The Embassy also clarified that the Ukrainian government is not admitting foreign volunteer fighters and as such dissociated itself from the claim that it is requesting $1,000 from each Nigerian volunteer for air ticket.
The Nigerian foreign affairs ministry says the Nigerian government will continue to engage with the Embassy of Ukraine in Nigeria and other relevant authorities to prevent the use of Nigerians as war machineries.
