There are reports coming out of South Africa, SA, that leaders of anti-migrant groups have given undocumented foreigners a fresh September 30 deadline to leave the country.

It’s another “leave our country” deadline. That was how it started in April this year.

Meanwhile, scores of Nigerians are still turning up at the country’s Consulate in Johannesburg. They want to return home following the wave of xenophobic protests in South Africa, which has however thinned out.

Many of them are stranded due to having been chased out of their homes, and not a few are reportedly camped out at Consulate premises.

Nigeria’s Consul-General in Johannesburg, Ninikanwa Okey-Uche has organised documentation for them, with about 500 Nigerians being processed.

AIT.live has learnt that by this week, 34 Nigerians will be airlifted home courtesy of the efforts of a group of private individuals in Nigeria who sponsored their flight tickets.

No fewer than 2,000 Nigerians have been repatriated following the massive anti-migrant protests that hit South Africa since April.

At least eight Nigerians have been killed this year by South African security personnel and unknown gunmen.

The South African government has condemned the mob action on foreigners but has been slow in reining in the leaders.
