The Social Democratic Party, SDP, has ratified the suspension of 13 members over alleged violations of the party’s constitution and activities considered detrimental to its internal cohesion.
The decision was endorsed during the party’s national convention following a motion presented and adopted by delegates.
Among those affected are the party’s former presidential candidate , National Secretary and factional chairman .
Others suspended include Joseph Achile Abu, Maggie Mariam Batubo, Sa’adatu Abdullahi, Rufus Ayenigba, Abimbola Aderemi, Oguchukwu Uba, Huseesini Bello, Alabi Lekan, Rosemary Effiong and Comrade Abubakar Modibo.
The party leadership said the disciplinary action became necessary to enforce internal discipline and uphold the provisions of the SDP constitution.
According to party officials, actions capable of undermining the unity, stability and organisational structure of the party would not be tolerated.
