The Nigerian Senate has made an emergency amendment Of section 84(4) of the Electoral Act which hitherto excluded statutory delegates of political parties from participating in Congresses and conventions.
Statutory Delegates Include Presidents, Vice presidents, members of National Assembly, Governors , Members of State Houses of Assembly, Chairmen of Councils and National Working Committee Members of all Political Parties .
Before Tuesday’s amendment, the Electoral Act only provided for elected delegates to vote during party primaries , and did not capture statutory delegates as voting delegates ,
With this amendment both elected and statutory delegates will be voting delegates in the forth coming party primaries which are scheduled to begin on May 18.
