The Senate has commenced an investigation into a suspected outbreak of Covid-19 in Nigeria, mandating its Committee on Health to verify reports of a confirmed case in the country.
Reports indicate that the Cross River State Ministry of Health has begun profiling and contact tracing of individuals who had contact with a Chinese national admitted after testing positive for the virus.
Commissioner for Health, Henry Ayuk, said Cross River State is recording its first significant case since 2022 and assured that measures are being intensified to curb further spread.
The committee is expected to present its findings on Tuesday.
