The National Assembly has pledged to strengthen its partnership with DAAR Communications Plc to ensure Nigerians receive accurate and timely information on the policies, programmes and achievements of the President Bola Tinubu administration.

President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, gave the assurance when the Chairman of the Board of DAAR Communications Plc, Raymond Dokpesi Jnr., led the management of the Media organisation on a courtesy visit to his office at the National Assembly.

Akpabio said the Senate remained committed to working closely with DAAR Communications and the media to keep the public properly informed, stressing that the relationship between the National Assembly and the organisation would continue to grow stronger.

Akpabio also commended DAAR Communications for its resilience over the past 35 years and urged its leadership to preserve the vision of the company’s founder.

The Senate President noted that while politics would always be part of governance, the media also had a responsibility to present factual reports on government policies and their impact on citizens.

Akpabio highlighted what he described as major accomplishments of the Tinubu administration, including ongoing railway projects such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Rail Line and the Kano-Kaduna-Abuja rail corridor, which he said would transform transportation, agriculture and commerce.

He also pointed to reforms in the economy, including the harmonisation of Exchange Rate, the overhaul of Nigeria’s tax administration through the recently enacted tax reform laws, and increased allocations to States from the Federation Account.

According to him, the Senate has played a pivotal role in advancing the administration’s reform agenda, having considered over 1,000 motions and more than 1,000 Bills, with over 75 Bills already signed into law by President Tinubu.

He said the National Assembly had worked closely with the Executive to modernise outdated laws, some of which dated back to the Colonial era, while maintaining its constitutional responsibility of lawmaking and oversight.

Chairman of the Board of DAAR Communications Plc, Raymond Dokpesi Jnr., said the visit is aimed at strengthening the relationship between the Media organisation and the National Assembly in the interest of Nigeria’s democracy.

He observed that the operating environment for the media had improved since President Bola Tinubu assumed office, noting that restrictions that previously limited journalists’ access to government activities and Committee proceedings had eased considerably.

Dokpesi said DAAR Communications had continued to partner with the Federal Government, the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, and the National Orientation Agency in promoting the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He also commended the leadership of the National Assembly for supporting the Executive while maintaining the constitutional principles of checks and balances.

The DAAR Communications chairman expressed confidence that the National Assembly would continue to balance its oversight responsibilities with the need to support policies aimed at national development.

The visit ended with the presentation of souvenirs to Senate President Godswill Akpabio in recognition of what DAAR Communications described as his remarkable achievements and exemplary leadership as President of the Senate.
