The Nigerian senate, has urged the Minister of Aviation to begin the process of upgrading the Muhammadu Buhari International Airport in Borno State for International Operation.
This follows a motion by Ali Ndume , noting that the six Geopolitical zones of the country except the North East has International Airport.

The Borno Lawmaker says an international airport in Maiduguri will enhance efficient and effective movement of goods and people from Nigeria across the world as well as reduce excess pressure on the roads and infrastructure within the zone.
He adds that the move will attract foreign investment , enhance economic development, improve the quality of life of the people and increase the gross domestic product of Nigeria.
Accordingly, the Senate urged the Aviation Minister to start the process of upgrading the facility for international operations.
It also mandated its committee on Aviation to keep track of the situation and report to the Upper Chamber within eight weeks.
