The Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, has strongly condemned a recent plot by certain individuals to acquire arms and disrupt the peace and constitutional order in Sierra Leone.
ECOWAS has called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of all those involved in the illegal act.
This position was contained in a statement released by the Commission on Sunday after the Sierra Leone’s capital, Freetown was reportedly rocked by a security breach at the military barracks.

The sub-regional body has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy for any unconstitutional change of government in West Africa. It says it remains committed to supporting the government and people of Sierra Leone in their efforts to deepen democracy and good governance, consolidate peace and security, and foster socio-economic development.
ECOWAS urges all Sierra Leoneans to remain calm and united in the face of the threat.
It vowed to assist the government in any way necessary to ensure the safety and security of all Sierra Leoneans.
