With Monday’s deployment of 19 commissioners to various ministries in Borno State, a total of six professors are currently serving under the administration of Professor Babagana Zulum.
The latest addition is Professor Mohammed Arab Alhaji, who was deployed as Commissioner for Health, making him the first Professor, since 1999, to head Borno’s healthcare sector.
The Governor had on Monday presided over the swearing-in of the commissioners.
Zulum had nominated 20, but the State Assembly cleared all 19 who appeared before it, while the remaining nominee, Zuwaira Gambo, was out of the country on an official engagement, at the time.
Secretary to the State Government, , Usman Jidda Shuwa, shortly after the swearing-in, released the deployments of the 19 Commissioners as directed by Zulum.
Deployed to the Ministry of Health as Commissioner, is Professor Mohammed Arab Alhaji, a Medical Doctor, who specializes in gastroenterology, paediatrics, hepatology and nutrition
Governor Zulum had in September 2020, appointed Arab as Chief Medical Director of the Borno State Hospital Management Board, before recently appointing him as Borno’s first Professor-Commissioner for Health.
The eighteen other deployments include Baba Kura Abba Jato to Home Affairs, Information and Culture; Barrister Kaka Shehu Lawan as Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice; Pogu Lawn Chibok to Inter-Government Affairs & Special Duties; Engr. Dr Babagana Mustapha Malumbe – Higher Education, Science, Technology & Innovation; Architect Isa Garba Halidu to Works; Abacha Umar Ngala – Religious Affairs; Engr. Mustapha Gubio- Reconstruction, Rehabilitation & Resettlement; Engineer Lawan Abba Wakilbe – Education; Engineer Tijjani Alkali Goni – Water Resources; Dr Ali Bunu Mustapha – Agriculture and Natural Resources, and Sugun Mai Mele – Local Government and Emirate Affairs.
Also on the list of deployed commissioners are Sainna Buba – Youth, Sports & Poverty Alleviation; Yerima Lawn Kareto -Trade, Investment and Tourism; Engineer Yuguda Saleh Vungas – Housing and Energy; Abubakar Tijjani – Transport; Madu Lawan Buba Walama – Animal and Fisheries Development; Adamu Alhaji Lawan, Finance, Budget and Planning, and Architect Yerima Saleh heads the Environment ministry
