The Catholic Diocese in Sokoto state has disclaimed reports that the residence of its Bishop, Matthew Hassan Kukah was burnt during Saturday’s protests over the arrest of suspected killers of Deborah Yakubu.
A statement signed by the diocese Director of Communications, Christopher Omotosho however says two church buildings were attacked though no life was lost.
It says a crowd of youths stormed the Holy Family Catholic cathedral along Bello, broke the windows while also vandalizing a bus in the premises of the Bishop Lawton secretariat.
The St. Kevin’s Catholic Church in Gidan Dere was also attacked with parts of the building burnt. A new hospital complex under construction was also affected.

The statement further confirmed the attack on the Bakhita centre along Aliyu Jodi road with fire set on a bus in the premises.
The diocese thanks the state Governor and the security agencies for their intervention.
The diocese has suspended all masses in the metropolis until the curfew is lifted.
