The Senior Staff Union of Nigerian Universities has raised alarm over usurpation of non-teaching staff positions by academic staff.

SSANU said Academic staff (ASUU) are taking over positions like University PRO, Director SERVICOM Unit, Director, Human Resources, Director, Medical Services among others.

SSANU President, Mohammed Haruna raised the alarm at a briefing, where he also called on the Federal Government to unbundle the integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System, (IPPIS), by decentralizing salary payment in the interest of industrial harmony on campus.

This was as SSANU threatened to embark on a nationwide strike over government refusal to obey court judgement absorbing university staff schools teachers into the institutions payroll.

On the ongoing strike at Plateau State University, Bokkos, SSANU called on Governor Simon Lalong to release the sum of N310 million for payment of Earned Allowance.

The workers’ union also called on the Vice Chancellor, Professor Izam Yohanna to mainstream hazard allowance at the approved rate of N30,000 since funds have been released by the State government to enable suspension of the strike.

SSANU also kicked against early retirement of staff by Adamawa State University, Mubi.

It therefore called on the management of the institution to adhere to the 65 years retirement age of non-teaching staff as approved by the government.
