Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU has called on the Federal Government to intensify efforts in tackling insecurity and unemployment, saying national development must be reflected in the quality of life of ordinary Nigerians.
National President of the Association, Mohammed Ibrahim, made the call during the 55th National Executive Council, NEC meeting of SSANU held at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, ATBU, Bauchi in North-East Nigeria.
The 55th National Executive Council Meeting of SSANU brought together the union’s national leadership and delegates to review the affairs of the association, as well as the economic, political, security, and social challenges affecting its members and Nigerians.
Addressing the gathering in Bauchi, the SSANU National President said the union remains committed to constructive engagement and national development. He noted that while progress has been recorded in some areas, the government must address the prevailing hardship and injustice through practical policies that will strengthen public institutions and improve citizens’ welfare.
Ibrahim also expressed concern over the rising rate of unemployment and urged the Federal Government to create sustainable jobs in agriculture, manufacturing, technology, renewable energy, and other productive sectors.
He stressed that national progress should not be measured solely by economic statistics but by the security, dignity, and quality of life experienced by ordinary Nigerians.
