State of Education: Students of Northern extraction reject hike in fees and student loans

Students in the northern part of Nigeria have condemned the proposed move by public higher institutions in the northern part of country to increase the tuition fees calling the move senseless and making Education beyond the reach of the ordinary Nigerian

The students under the coalition of northern groups Students are calling for mass action against the move by public Institutions and for all stakeholders and the northern elites to reject and discourage the passage of the education loan bill as the life span and sustainability of the loan is not guaranteed the students disclosed this at an organized protest on the streets in the Gombe metropolis calling for a total shutdown of educational programs at its institutions if not addressed.

In a march to salvage the state of education for the ordinary Nigerian, students from All parts of the North marched to protest the move by public Institutions to increase the tuition fees in the light of growing economic realities

These students stated as a result of the increase in tuition fees the consequences would be dire to themselves and to their sponsors and parents

It thus rejected the proposed educational loan stating that the government which until now has issues with lecturers cannot sustain the loan

The students say if the issue is not addressed the campus of these institutions would be shut down with streets protest across all parts of the country.
