The Federal government has challenged investors, policy makers and other key players to join hands in the National mission to revitalize the Nation’s steel industry through investment in critical infrastructure.

The Minister of State for Steel Development, Uba Ahmadu made the call during the closing ceremony of the 5th National Council on Mining and Mineral Resources Development Meeting in Ilorin the Kwara State capital where he noted that steel industry remains the backbone of modern infrastructure upon which other countless sectors thrive.

According to the Minister of State for Steel Development, Uba Ahmadu, building a thriving Nigerian steel industry is not just an economic imperative but a national imperative which is about creating jobs, laying groundwork for self-reliant and diversified economy.

The Chairman House Committee on Solid Minerals, Gaza Jonathan Gbefwi pleaded with the Nigeria’s Governors Forum to stop issuing executive orders with regards to mining in the country and adopt Nigerian Minerals and Mining Act, 2007 (MIREMCO) in order to create synergy between the three tiers of government.

The steel sector according to the minister for state is not just about miners but the architect of a new Nigeria, one where the economic fortune is not solely dependent on oil.
