The wife of Bauchi State Governor, Aisha Bala, says she will do whatever she can to discourage street begging in the state.

The state governor’s wife said this while flagging off the first phase of the distribution of twenty thousand Naira to more than 80 Almajiri beneficiaries drawn from four Tsangaya schools in the state capital.

The governor’s wife, in collaboration with her NGO, Almuhiba Foundation, said the aim is to get the Almajiris engaged meaningfully.
Almajiris are often children of the poor, sent to seek Islamic education.

They are between the ages of five and 15 found roaming the streets of Northern Nigeria begging for money and food, a picture the Bauchi State governor’s wife Aisha said does not represent what the Almajiri system stands for.

Bauchi State has a large number of Almajari children, seen mainly in motor parks and traffic points with bowls, begging.
