Striking FCT Public Schools Teachers Resume Work After 2 Weeks

Striking teachers in all public primary schools in the Federal Capital Territory, as well as the Area Council workers, have been directed to resume their normal duties with effect from Thursday, December 12, 2024.

This was contained in a communique issued at the end of a meeting by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), FCT chapter, held in Abuja on Wednesday.

ait.live recalls that the public primary school teachers embarked on an indefinite strike two weeks ago over non implementation of the new national Minimum Wage, failure to pay salary arrears, and other outstanding allowances.

The leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) at meeting expressed, appreciation to all primary school teachers in the Territory for their support and solidarity while the strike lasted.

The Union also used the communique to remind the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike of his promise to intervene in the settlement of teachers outstanding entitlements, ranging from the 40% peculiar allowances, 35% and 25% salary increases as well as N35,000 award, among others.
