Residents of Suleja are opposing plans by the Niger State Government to convert land earmarked for a campus of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University into a market.
The Suleja Development Association says the community needs more educational facilities, not another market, and is asking Governor Mohammed Bago to halt the proposed conversion and consult residents.
The dispute is over land originally acquired for educational purposes and subsequently allocated for a campus of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University.
The Suleja Development Association says converting the property to a market would undermine the educational needs and long-term interests of the community.

The association argues that Suleja already has several markets but needs more educational facilities, insisting that land set aside for the university should remain dedicated to that purpose.
Members say the allocation of the land for an IBB University campus had been welcomed by the community, making the proposed change of use a major concern for residents.
The association is asking the Niger State Government to suspend the proposed market development and engage the Suleja community before taking any further action on the property.
