As Nigerians await the appointment of a new coach for the Super Eagles, Minister of Sports Development, John Owan Enoh has described reports that he was in discussion to return Jose Peseiro to the role as false.
Reacting to reports which claimed he was supposedly in advanced talks with José Peseiro for a potential return as Coach of the Super Eagles, Enoh described such as false and fabricated for ostensibly no other purpose than to create sensationalism.
In a release by his Special Assistant on Media, Diana-Mary Nsan the Sports Minister said he does not interfer or influence critical decisions of the federations, particularly in this case, the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF.
The statement further maintained that the Minister operates with utmost decorum and ensures that the federations meet the required expectations and standards in the discharge of their duties.
The Minister affirmed the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring that the sports sector in Nigeria achieves monumental success under the Renewed Hope Agenda of the present administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The statement further urged Sports loving Nigerians and critical stakeholders including the media, to continue supporting the Federal Ministry of Sports Development and disregard false news.
The issue of a coach to pilot the affairs of the country’s senior men’s national football team, the Super Eagles has dominated discussions since the contract of former coach, Jose Peseiro was not renewed on expiration.
NFF President, Ibrahim Gusau had assured the media in Lagos on Friday that a new coach would be named within a week, a time gap which lapses on Friday 26th April, 2024.
