The Supreme Court has upheld the elections of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State and Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State.
The Kano State governorship judgement was delivered by Justice Sylvester Ngwuta and the court unanimously held that it sees no reason to upturn the judgement of the two lower courts.
The lower courts had earlier noted that what the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP’s candidate adduced before it was inconsistent with the sole ground of his appeal. Therefore it failed to demonstrate that judgement of the two lower courts were perverse.
Abba Yusuf had in his appeal asked the Supreme Court to set aside the concurrent decisions of both the Kano State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal and the Court of Appeal, which affirmed Ganduje’s re-election .

Yusuf alleged that the Kano State Returning Officer cancelled results in 207 polling units in the state and declared the election as inconclusive and scheduled a re-run election for March 23, 2019, after results of 44 local government areas were declared.
Also in the Sokoto State governorship election appeal, the apex court upheld the election of Governor Aminu Tambuwal of the PDP.
In the judgement delivered by Justice Uwani Abba- Aji, the court also unanimously held that the appellant, Ahmed Aliyu-Sokoto, who contested the election as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, failed to prove his petition and upheld the concurrent decisions of the lower courts.
Having dismissed the main appeal, the cross-appeal filed by Tambuwal was also dismissed that it has become an academic exercise.
Meanwhile, the court has resumed hearing in the appeals from Plateau and Bauchi States.
